The Somers Fire Department has amongst its members a Career Staff who work Monday through Friday 6am – 6pm.  Their main responsibility is to make sure the ambulance is staffed at all times.  However they have many other roles and responsibilities.  Some of these include:  apparatus maintenance and upkeep, station maintenance, cleaning and upkeep, annual hose testing, hydrant installation, maintenance testing and upkeep, and issuing of burn permits.  These tasks are performed among the day to day activities such as training and physical fitness.

The career staff is currently made up of five full time members and six part time members.  All career staff members are certified EMT’s with at least two years experience and are also trained to Firefighter II level.  Most of the members have taken additional training and been certified in areas such as Fire Instructor I and II, Fire and Life safety Educator, Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD’s) and Hazardous Materials Technician level just to name a few.

All full timers are proud members of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and Uniform Professional Firefighters of Connecticut (UPFFA).
