The Somers Fire Department has approximately 70 dedicated members within its ranks. These members are part of four distinct and important divisions that make up the Somers Fire Department "Team". The four divisions are Fire, EMS, Career Staff and Auxiliary. Although all divisions work together, the Fire, EMS, and Auxiliary divisions are made up of volunteer members. These members give countless hours for training and call response for the community. The career staff supplements the volunteers by providing Fire and EMS coverage Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. when many volunteers are out of town. Volunteer members may choose to join more than one division; however they must meet the requirements of each division to stay a member in good standing.
The Somers Fire Department also has junior membership known as "Squad 2" for 16 and 17 year olds interested in the Fire / EMS service. The "Squad 2" members attend department drills and, after completing a training program, are permitted to attend calls to assist by doing non-hazardous task under the direction of a line officer. The goal of this program is to begin the training of our future firefighters and EMS personnel.
