Please click on the links below to view picture albums of some of our recent training. 2004 Arson Burn Investigation - In 2004 The Somers High School's arson investigation class, headed my Mrs. Butler, approached us about setting up an arson burn. We had a old trailer donated to us, so we decided to make a bedroom in the trailer and set it up to look like an arson fire. Then on December 2nd we lit it on fire and put it our right away so the high school students could investigate the cause. The students worked with the Town and State Fire Marshals office to determine how the fire started. A special thanks goes to John Machnicki of Travelers Insurance who provided his technical experience and equipment so the students could better learn how to investigate the fire. It was a great learning experience for us as well as the students. Hazardous Materials Technician Training Holmatro Extrication Tools Training - Recently, The Somers Fire Department, received a federal grant of approx. $50,000 to upgrade all our extrication equipment. The Department's committee looked at multiple different vendors of equipment and Holmatro was found to best suit our department. Live Burn on South Rd. - A special thanks to Dan Avery of Avery Construction for giving us the opportunity to do live burn training in a house on South Rd. prior to it being demolished for new construction in that area. We conducted many ventilation, extinguishment, and search and rescue drills using this house. Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Training involving a school bus - This was training with an overturned school bus with multiple patients. Many thanks to the other departments and agencies who were involved with making this night a success. Ice Rescue Drill - Drill conducted at Camp Aye-Po
